Holiday Specials

Children Day (morning)
Every year, on the second Saturday of January, Thai people celebrate Children Day (Wan Dek). Many of the fun activities are linked to professions and they provide a playful way for children to learn more about them.

In the morning we’ll go to Phetchabun. If you want you can participate in hosting an activity or you simply observe and enjoy the atmosphere. Afterwards we’ll have lunch together.

Sweet Tamarind Fair (2 evenings)
The provincial symbol of Phetchabun is sweet tamarind. The harvest of this tree fruit is celebrated for a week in front of the provincial hall in Phetchabun. There is a beautiful floral parade, a large evening market and a Miss Sweet Tamarind Beauty Contest. The Mekhamwaan Festival, as its known in Thai, is from January 17 to 25.

We’ll join the day of the parade and also the day of the Beauty Contest.

Songkran Water Festival (2 afternoons+1 evening)
From April 13 to 15 Thailand celebrates Thai New Year. It is a time when family and friends gather to pay gratitude to elders and visit temples for prayer and offering. To the outside world Songkran is known as a festival of great fun as people everywhere splash water in the streets. It is believed to bring longevity, good health and prosperity.  

On the first day we’ll drive to Phetchabun city. In the afternoon we enjoy Songkran from the back of a pickup, splashing water to people in the street. In the evening we’ll join a Songkran party in the city center.

On the second day we’ll first join the water festival in Bung Nam Tao and then continue to Lom Sak.

Um Phra Dam Nam Festival (4 days)
This unique festival revolves around a ritual bathing of a Buddha statue in the Pah Sak river. During this week long festival there are multiple things to see and do.

The first day we’ll watch a parade with around 2000 dancers.
On the second day, there is a parade of the Buddha image through the city followed with the ceremonial dive into the river. On two other days we’ll shortly visit the museum of Phetchabun, go to see a long boat rowing competition, visit huge market and watch a light and sound show about the history of Phetchabun.

Loy Kratong Festival (evening)
This festival where people float beautiful hand made lotus shaped boats, is held on Friday November 19, 2021.

In the evening we’ll go to Phra Yai (big Buddha statue) in Phetchabun. The small boats named Kratong can be bought here. After letting the Kratong into the water we’ll light a sky lantern. On the way back we’ll stop at a temple in Thapon for the atmosphere and to see a Thai traditional beauty contest.

New Year Festival (1 night)
At the end of each year the cooler weather draws people from the Bangkok metropolitan to Phetchabun to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the mountains of nearby Khao Khor.

In the afternoon of the 31st we’ll go to Khao Khor. We’ll have a nice barbecue and then head to a New Year Countdown festival not far from out camping.

  • If you book a Holiday Special and the trip falls on a Saturday, then the weekend tour will be rescheduled to the next available day.
  • If you book a Holiday Special and it would not be possible to have a Weekly Meetup that evening, then we’ll reschedule the free dinner to the next available day.
